RETURN TO the Gym PROGRAM

Pain while lifting can really hinder your progress and a lot of times end up causing more pain/damage to the body. Getting treatment by a specialized physical therapist right away typically decreases recovery time and prevents further damage. You may be having pain when lifting overhead, squatting, deadlifting or any other common lifts. This isn’t normal! You shouldn’t have pain when lifting!

Typical Gym Pathologies Seen:

  • Shoulder Impingement/Tendonitis from pushing activities

  • Low back facet derangment pain with squatting or deadlifting

  • Knee patellar tendonitis with squatting or leg press

All these pathologies typically have a root problem which must be corrected along with site of pain/discomfort.

Physical Therapy Treatment Priorities:

  • Find the source of the pain; typically, the site of pain isn’t the root cause of your pain

  • Decrease your symptoms and correct limitations with a joint by joint approach.

  • Focus on manual treatment during your session and give you corrective exercises to do at home (this is crucial to see results!).

Every individual is different and should be treated different depending on what their limitations are. Each physical therapy treatment session will focus on progressing the athlete back to the gym with a joint by joint approach, extensive manual treatment and updating their correctives each visit.
